  • 11 Steps

About

This course traces the foundations of American liberty from the great English Liberty Charters, such as the Magna Carta, through the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. You will discover the historical sources that influenced the Founding Fathers and examine the grievances that led to American independence. The course then walks through the Constitution clause by clause, explaining the meaning, purpose, and historical context behind each provision so you can better understand why it was written and how it was intended to limit and direct the powers of government. The course concludes with a brief overview of communism, examining its core principles and identifying common characteristics found in communist systems. By understanding these ideas, you will be better equipped to recognize them when they appear and to understand the constitutional limits placed upon the federal government.
